Lauren Witzke says the Durupınar wood is also being tested for pitch, tree sap and species

· by Lauren Witzke, Noah's Ark Scans

Lauren Witzke of Noah's Ark Scans said on X that the charred Durupınar wood is being tested for bitumen ("pitch"), tree sap and species as well as carbon-14.

What is claimed

Witzke says the wood's depth shows it is very old and not mudflow debris.

What is established

No laboratory had named the labs, the tests or any results as of 30 October; neither Atila nor Sivas Cumhuriyet University had described pitch or sap tests publicly.

Details

The post was published at 22:40 UTC on 28 October. Witzke said the wood came from deep enough that "we know that it's very old and not a result of mudflow or subsurface debris, but that's pretty much all we know"; that dating inference is hers. Genesis 6:14 describes the Ark as coated with pitch, which is why a bitumen test is of interest to the group. Replying the next day, the Freedom From Religion Foundation said old wood in the ground is not evidence of the Ark and that dating and species tests cannot establish the biblical story as historical fact.
