On a SEARCH Foundation expedition, Fernand Navarra led the team to a site on Ararat where pieces of wood were found.

What is established

Two radiocarbon analyses of the 1969 samples dated the wood to about 1,350 years old (around 600 AD), far too young for the Ark. Per the New York Times (February 1970), Navarra remained convinced the timbers were remnants of the Ark, and some expedition sponsors cited older ages from non-radiocarbon tests.
